Measure 60 Cycle Transport Improvements Katerina Oktabcova Usti nad Labem Municipality

Measure 60 Background & Objectives Currently, Ústí nad Labem has very little road space dedicated to cycling and very low amount of cyclists. Objectives Improve conditions for cycling in the city –Provide complex information about cycling opportunities, services and points of interest (website) –Improve cycling infrastructure and provided services (feasibility study) –Utilise results of the cycle policy audit performed in the city and implement recommended actions (BYPAD)

Measure 60 Measure overview Tasks Improving Cycle Transport –Finished in M27 –RTD task –Feasibility study of connecting the two international cycle routes by a new cycle route leading through the city 6.10 Cycle Transport Improvements –Finished in M29 –DEMO task –Providing complex information about cycling opportunities in the Usti region through a web portal

Measure 60 Difficult elevation profile of the city – river basin surrounded by hills Insufficient cycling infrastructure –City cycle routes lead through motor traffic roads –No dedicated lanes, no priority for cyclists –One separated cycle route along the Elbe river Low budget for cycle transport improvements –Requires soft measures and assigning priorities to actions for cycle transport improvements Challenges

Measure 60 Implementation Comprehensive web portal for cyclists in the Ústí nad Labem put into operation - nl.cdsw.cz Major cycle route connecting the international cycle routes in the territory and leading through Ústí nad Labem was proposed. Individual steps towards cycle transport improvements in the form of an Action Plan were incorporated into the SUTP for Ústí nad Labem. Training of school children in safe cycling and traffic rules in progress.

Measure – Improving cycle transport Study of leading the cycle routes in the city Proposals for the Master Plan of the city Routes are leading primarily through: –Existing cycling infrastructure –Pedestrian and recreation zones –Segregated lines on roads –Roads with restricted traffic Proposal for new cycle infrastructure in the city

Measure – Improving cycle transport The proposed integrated cycling infrastructure connects: Current cycle network Cycle routes on both sides of the river Labe Cycle routes leading to neighboring regions Towns surrounding Ústí nad Labem with the city centre Touristic destinations in the area Proposal for cycle routes in the city centre

Measure Cycle transport improvements Trial version of the cycling web portal for Ústí nad Labem was implemented: Information about cycling possibilities in the area, advices, services, interesting destinations etc.

Measure Cycle transport improvements Content: –Interactive map of all the cycle routes –Characteristics of individual routes –Safety information –Videos and pictures from the routes –Dangerous areas for cycling –Technical support and services for cyclists –Points of interest in the area

Measure 60 Interactive maps Each cycle route is accompanied by a video showing the passage through the route on a bike in both directions A point on the map is moving in the corresponding position Specific interactive marks on the map are giving characteristics of the route (critical parts, uphill, downhill, surface, descriptions, etc) Further information are included: pictures, points of interest, links, etc.

Measure 60 Results Website promoted and accepted by local cyclists as a useful tool. All 4th graders in the city participate in traffic training encouraging cycling. Required future actions Implement the Action Plan for cycle transport improvements of the SUTP Implement the solution proposed within the feasibility study connecting the international cycle routes in the territory Implement recommendations of the BYPAD to improve cycling policy in the city and repeat the audit periodically Continuously update and improve the web portal for cyclists

Measure 60 Budget and costs Purchases Website application for cyclists Budget4 000€ Actual costs5 000€
