CERN HR Department Strategy, Management and Development DT2 News DT2 Personnel André Domeniconi retired on 18 July after 39 (!) years of service Serge Duarte Pinto joined group as PhD student (supervisor: Leszek Ropelewski). Works on GEM developments. Richard Fortin joined group. Section SD (M. Moll). Initial main role: Maintain & Operate GIF facility (B180). Joachim Bächler joined group. Section EC (A. Onnela). Works in CMS ECAL EC project, technical coordination.

CERN HR Department Strategy, Management and Development Important for our future: Council approved additional 4 x 60 MCHF ( ) Four Themes: i. Full exploitation of the LHC potential; ii. Optimization and modernisation of the injector complex; iii. Advanced R&D for LHC upgrade and for future accelerators and detectors; iv. Special projects. R&D for tracking detectors and calorimeters; developments in microelectronics and opto-electronics with advanced 130 nm technology; improvements in Triggering, DAQ and controls MCHF + 33 FTEs. Work is organized in 9 work packages (drafts exist). DT2 is expected to play an important role in 4 of them: WP4: Rad hard Si tracking (SLHC). WP5: MPGD (GEM, micromegas & co.). WP6: Interconnect technologies. WP7: Irradiation facilities & material + gas studies.

CERN HR Department Strategy, Management and Development Impact of additional 4 x 60 MCHF on CERN personnel evolution

CERN HR Department Strategy, Management and Development  RD51

CERN HR Department Strategy, Management and Development CERN makes large efforts to attract additional resources (project money + people) through different applications. DT2 is involved in 2 proposals. CLOUD (J. Kirkby + Antti Onnela) MC-PAD (CJ + …) Not approved, but possibly re-assessment ? EU research programmes for : FP7. Total budget ~ 50 Mrd Euros Marie Curie training network on particle detectors. Network partners are CERN, DESY, GSI, PSI, Frascati, Nikhef, U Hamburg, Krakow, Ljubljana + 3 companies. Request (15 pages document): 18 PhD students, 4 Post Docs + overhead. Total volume ~ 5 M€. Passed successfully stage 1 (22% success rate). Now have to write full proposal (50 pages). 40% success rate.
