Presentation transcript:

Model United Nations is an educational simulation of the actual United Nations that provides a diverse group of youth a golden opportunity to learn and express their views about today’s most relevant issues of international diplomacy and relations and the United Nations. In model united nations, participants wear the shoes of dignified diplomats of UN member states to debate on various issues such as international law, economic, humanitarian affairs, and social development and the environment as well as peace and security of the globe. Model UNs help in transforming students into future diplomats of the world.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and is charged with the maintenance of international peace and security as well as accepting new members to the United Nations and approving any changes to its United Nations Charter. Critics of the council often describe it as an undemocratic international body, and argue it fails its principal task, mainly because of the veto power granted to only five of its members—Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, and the United States. Its powers include the establishment of peacekeeping operations, the establishment of international sanctions, and the authorization of military action through Security Council resolutions; it is the only UN body with the authority to issue binding resolutions to member states. The Security Council held its first session on 17 January The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is a United Nations System inter- governmental body whose 47 member states are responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world. The UNHRC is the successor to the UN Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR, herein CHR), and is a subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly. The council works closely with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and engages the United Nations' special procedures. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA, GA, or, from the French: Assemblée Générale, "AG") is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and the only one in which all member nations have equal representation. Its powers are to oversee the budget of the United Nations, appoint the non-permanent members to the Security Council, receive reports from other parts of the United Nations and make recommendations in the form of General Assembly Resolutions It has also established a wide number of subsidiary organs.
