PREPPIES MESS YOU UP! Or… Prepositional Phrases and How to Master Them!

What is a Preppie? For our purposes, a Preppie is a PREPOSITION. A PREPOSITION shows POSITION. See? Well… let me show you. All we need is a tree and a squirrel. Yes… true!

A Preposition Is… anything a squirrel can do to a tree. The squirrel ran.. UP the tree AROUND the tree DOWN the tree OVER the tree THROUGH the tree ON the tree… And on and on…

So the PrePOSITIONS Are Everything in green below: The squirrel ran.. UP the tree AROUND the tree DOWN the tree OVER the tree THROUGH the tree ON the tree Each shows POSITION

So What is a PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE? It BEGINS with the PREPOSITION and ends once you know where the squirrel IS! Below, the Prepositional Phrases are in green: The squirrel ran.. UP the tree AROUND the tree DOWN the tree OVER the tree THROUGH the tree ON the tree

Don’t Like Squirrels? That’s OK – a PREPPIE is ALSO what a PLANE does to a CLOUD! It simply shows POSITION! Again, the PREPPIES (Prepositional Phrases) are in green: The plane flew... AROUND the cloud DOWN the cloud OVER the cloud THROUGH the cloud ON the cloud You can “feel” that squirrels work better – but you use what works for you!

So HOW Do Preppies Mess You Up? They get between a SUBJECT and a VERB and make you choose the wrong verb – but we’ll get to that when we do Subject/Verb Agreement. They make you think they’re the OBJECT. But forget that all for now – just know a PREPPIE when you see one. BEWARE of them – as they are akin to rabid squirrels! For now, simply remember…

A Preposition Is… Anything a squirrel can do to a tree. AND… PREPPIES mess you UP!

Need More? Check out your text. There’s TONS in there! me with questions – you KNOW I love them!
