Diarrhoea in weaners Cause: Serveral causes often including insufficient immunisation against certain coli bacili. Symptoms of importance:Sudden death. Diarrhoea, weight loss and not thriving. Treatment: Antibiotic treatment. Diet. Electrolytic solution. Combating: Correct weaning procedure. Preventive medication when necessary. Prevention: Good housing hygiene and housing enviroment. Avoid abrupt changes in diet.

Check list The unit must be clean and dry The group size must be adjusted to the pen size and the production system The weaners must be inspected twice per day as minimum With disease outbreak or suspicion of disease, the piglets must be taken care of immediately Relief pens for sick piglets Start temperatures are to be observed There should be a maximum of 2 weeks spread in age of weaner group.
