PCC Sustainability Committee Continuing and Expanding A Sustainable Initiative

Who are we?  We are a volunteer group composed of faculty, staff, and students who have an interest in participating in PCC's sustainability mission and vision.

 Our Mission:  We are committed to integrating sustainable practices into every facet of the college. This includes facility operations, curriculum, professional development, and the student environment  Our Vision:  Initiate and support resources, programs, and events that increase awareness and participation in activities that increase resource efficiency and environmental responsibility.

What is sustainability?  Global View: Brundtland Report Paraphrased : - "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”  To my grandparents it was simply a common sense lifestyle…….

Pitt Community College is committed to the thoughtful and conservative use of resources, balancing today’s needs with those of future generations.  The PCC Sustainability Committee encourages our campus and the community to: –· Take Responsibility –· Waste Less –· Reduce, Reuse, Recycle –· Support Local Businesses –· Think Long Term

 Weatherization Program  PCC is currently offering ARC 210, Introduction to Sustainable Design and several other courses.  PCC Solar Lab-Solar Lab used in our Introduction to Sustainable Design course  Greenhouse and Horticulture Program  Nature Trail Offers- Hands-On Lab-PCC Science Classes  Earth Day Fair-Wednesday APRIL 17 th 2013  Expanded Recycling Efforts-Ongoing  Energy Awareness Challenge-Take the Pledge! Sustainability Committee: Future Goals  Educate & communicate sustainability message- Continue the Energy Awareness Campaign.  Comprehensive recycling program including dedicated material containers for both interior and exterior  Substantiated reduction in energy use per square foot. – Resources are shrinking but school population and use is expanding!  Support the completion of the “STARS” report- AASHE  Involvement in future building design and improvements
