After applying for the Honors Achievement Award…  After verifying you’re eligible, your name will be added to Honors Canvas and you’ll receive an electronic welcome letter  You’ll then receive an electronic invitation to join the Honors Program in Canvas  Necessary forms will be found in the “Assignments” section  Important information and updates will be posted throughout the semester in the “Announcements” section – review this section often  Find Honors-Sponsored Events listed in the Canvas Calendar (click on or hover over dates so full information can be seen)

Once you’re eligible for this scholarship, here’s how you earn your award… Choose one of your current classes & ask instructor for permission to do an Honors project in it Agree on project details, then fill out a CEP (Course Enrichment Plan) and upload in Canvas Create and present the project to your class, then upload it in Canvas Print out an End of Semester Checklist, fill out Section A & instructor fills out/signs Section B You hand deliver the Checklist to the Honors office by the designated deadline Attend one Honors-sponsored event listed in the Honors calendar during the semester, write a full two-page summary & upload it in Canvas After verifying all requirements are met, your award will be disbursed soon after the semester ends

Scholarship Award Amounts Amount award is based on the number of credit hours currently enrolled in (summer excluded): You can complete more than one Honors project per semester, but you are awarded scholarship money for only one of them. However, you will earn Honors points for all completed projects. Eligible classes you’re taking at other Maricopa community colleges will be counted; however, your Honors project must be completed at EMCC with a “C” or higher grade. Award is sent to you from our Financial Aid office after the semester ends, depending on the method of delivery you set up (financial aid debit card, direct deposit or snail mail). $500 for 12+ credit hours $325 for credit hours $244 for credit hours

You must attend one Honors- sponsored event for the semester. In Canvas, click on “Calendar” near the top left of the page. Then click on “EMC Spring 2016 Honors Achievement” to view dates and times. Hover over or click on a date to view all the event information (this feature may not work on your cell phone). Finding Honors-Sponsored Events in the Canvas Calendar

After attending your one event for the semester, type and submit your reflection/observation summary into Canvas by the designated deadline. Summary requirements are: 2 full pages long size 12 font 1-inch margins all around double-spaced How to Compose your Event Summary Example Some things you can include: What interested you about the event, positives and negatives, does it tie into your degree program, etc.

Earning Transcripts Distinction Honors Program vs EMCC Graduation with Honors from EMCC  Students who have the following grade point average will graduate from EMCC with the following distinction:  “with distinction”  “with high distinction”  “with highest distinction”

Know the difference between a Cohort class and a Section class The encircled ‘H’ means Honors class But you need to open the class description to verify if it is an Honors Section or Cohort class

Calculating Your Cumulative GPA The “Cumulative Total” column shown in the MyMaricopa Student Center is not what we use to compute your GPA for this scholarship Your cumulative GPA is computed from all community colleges attended in the Maricopa County Community College District Example

Scholarship Opportunities * All-USA Scholarship (Fall semester) This is an annual competition open to students who will be transferring on to an accredited 4-year institution of higher education. This scholarship pays two full years of tuition to one of our three Arizona public universities (ASU, NAU, or U of A) with money awarded for transfer: Link to Scholarship FlierLink to Scholarship Flier * Chancellor's Scholarship (Spring semester) Offered to one student at each college annually, selected by a college committee. It awards an amount up to 18 letter graded credits of in-county tuition and the registration fee for each semester, plus $250 each semester for books and supplies. To be eligible, a current full-time Honors student must enroll at the college awarding the scholarship on a full-time basis for the following year, and maintain an MCCCD cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. * Maricopa Colleges Faculty Foundation Scholarship (Spring & Fall semester) This scholarship is awarded based upon the college Honors Coordinator’s decision.
