 Continue with the Wi-Fi MAC randomization trial at IEEE 802 March 2015 Plenary and IETF92 meetings  First trial at IETF91, on an experimental network Now running on all the regular attendees’ networks  Evaluating support of different OSes Windows, OS X and Linux already supported in IETF91 Android support added for IETF92  Analyzing the impact of L2 address randomization on the user experience and the network infrastructure Specially in case of L2 address collision  Keep on learning from this experience

 Running on all wireless Internet infrastructure  No isolated SSID ( ietf-PrivRandMAC ) deployed on the IETF network.  Deployed on all physical Access Points  Minor change for the second and third trial: Shorter DHCP lease (one hour) for those IP addresses assigned to a local MAC

 WLAN address randomization scripts developed and provided for 4 different OSes:  Microsoft Windows (tested on Windows 7)  Apple Mac OS X (tested on Version and 10.10)  GNU Linux (tested on Debian testing/unstable, Ubuntu 13.10, and Fedora 20)  Android (rooted devices, working on Nexus 4 & 5) Impact of Android version + HW  Use of DHCP client identifier for debugging

 OS distribution

 144 local MACs seen during the week (IETF92)  97 IP addresses were assigned to local MAC addresses. Out of them:  76 IP addresses were assigned to one local MAC address, e.g., because no DHCP client identifier was used by the client  21 IP addresses were assigned to multiple local MAC address # MAC addresses for IP address

 Users were asked to use a specific dhcp-client- identifier  Issue: Server delegates the same IP address to a client even if it changes its L2 address  Observed behavior on DHCP server  If DHCP server receives a request for which it finds a matching DHCP lease (i.e., existing client-id) within the 25% of the DHCP lease time, the server does not reply  This limits the speed a client can change its L2 address, which besides depends on a configuration parameter on the network side (the DHCP lease time)  The implications of this issue requires further analysis

 Planning to leave the network setup permanently at IETF and IEEE 802 meetings  Continue analyzing the impact of MAC address collision under different scenarios and with different network equipment vendors  Some conference/technical papers under submission/preparation
