Second Grade Gymnastic Skills Objectives: PE.2.MS.1.1 Execute recognizable forms of the basic locomotor skills. PE.2.MS.1.3 Create transitions between sequential locomotor skills. PE.2.MS.1.4 Apply non-locomotor movements with locomotor patterns and levels in a variety of movement sequences. What does this mean to you? In second grade, you will be learning about balance, body positions, and continue to work on the rolls from kindergarten and first grade. Your teacher will want to see you use some of the new balance techniques like scales, and headstands along with some of the rolls below to make a 3 skill routine. Rolls: Pencil Roll - Body in layout position on the mat - Hips and Shoulders stay in alignment in a layout position Forward Roll - Start standing up on the mat - Bend down into a tuck position (Hands by feet & knees bent) - Place hands firmly on mat - Tuck chin to chest - Push bottom over head - Make sure shoulder blades are on the mat when starting the roll (Head should not touch mat) - Push to stand up without using hands Fireman’s roll - Start in correct push-up position - Lower body to mat and roll over - When back on stomach push body up to push up position again. Egg Roll - Sit in tuck position laying sideways - Body staying in middle of mat while rolling
