Journal- United States History May 31, 2011 Hostage Disaster In 1979, a group of Americans was taken hostage in Teheran. In 1980, American commandos went in to save them. Disaster ensued. Helicopters malfunctioned, eight soldiers died, and none of the hostages were freed at the time. If you were the President of the United States, would you authorize the rescue of hostages even if you knew there was great risk involved? Explain your answer.
