Channels of Distribution

Not all tickets are sold at the gates of Alton Towers. Channels of distribution describes the ways in which a product reaches its consumers. In this case it’s the different ways tickets are sold.

The Alton Towers Resort distributes its tickets through a range of channels: –Gate Sales –Advance Booking (Telephone and Internet) –Outside Agents

Over one third of tickets are sold by outside agents: –Local Hotels –Ferry Companies –Tour Operators –Online Ticket Agents –Coach Operators

What are the advantages of selling tickets in this way to: (a) The Alton Towers Resort? (b) The outside agent?
