Diabetes Myth or Fact? A person can have “borderline” Diabetes. If I “feel okay” with a blood sugar over 200, then “it’s okay.” If a person takes insulin, they have “bad” diabetes A person with diabetes cannot eat anything with sugar in it. My physician is in charge of my diabetes, not me. No matter what I do, I will get diabetes complications

Criteria for Diagnosing Diabetes Diabetes is diagnosed with either of the following: Fasting plasma glucose of ≥ 126 mg/dl. Fasting is defined as 8 hours without caloric intake. Symptoms (frequent urination, excessive thirst or hunger, unexplained weight loss) plus casual plasma glucose of ≥ 200 mg/dl. 2-hr post-load glucose ≥ 200 mg/dl during a OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test) Should be confirmed with a repeat test on a different day A1C ≥ 6.5% For a diagnosis of pre-diabetes, A1C can range between 5.7% and 6.4%.
