What happens at the different types of plate boundary? Learning objective: I can give examples of different plates and different types of plate boundary and explain the processes happening there

Know the boundaries The tectonic plates are moving in different directions. Plates that are moving in opposite directions form a constructive boundary. Plates that move towards each other form either a destructive boundary or a collision boundary. Plates sliding by each other form a conservative boundary. Can you name one example of each of the different boundary types? The movements have different effects on the landscape of the Earth.

Earthquakes can occur at all four major plate boundaries but the most severe earthquakes usually occur at conservative and destructive plate boundaries. Conservative boundary Destructive boundary What are earthquakes?

Destructive plate boundary

XEHKUs

Conservative plate boundary

Task 1: Complete the worksheet called The Earth’s Crust

Task 2: Produce a story board of 6 images that shows how and why earthquakes occur at conservative plate margins. Extension: also explain how earthquakes occur at destuctive plate boundaries
