File Management Review Moving Files within Windows Explorer ► Drag and Drop – most unreliable due to human error ► Copy and Paste – good for creating backups or taking a file off your computer to work with at another location ► Cut and Paste – takes original file and moves to another location ► Keyboard shortcuts for actions (Ctrl + C, V, X) ► Remember Where you put it What you moved ► 3 Ways to select multiple files at once (to move or work with) Hold the Control key (CTRL) + Left click for individual selection Hole the Shift key + Left Click to select many at once Hit CTRL + A to select all items in folder
Zipping Files ► Zip files – a virtual folder that compresses several files into one allowing for easy transfer (file extension =.zip) ► Creating a zip file in Windows Explorer Select file or files to be zipped Right click on them Choose Send To Choose Compressed Folder Name Zip file
Advantages to Zip files ► Makes attachments easy ► Compresses file sizes to make smaller – easier to transfer, , or transport ► Universally accepted file format ► Can be passworded for security
