Computer Literacy What is computer literacy?  Knowledge of computers  Understanding BOTH capabilities and limitations

Why Computer Literacy (Team Work) Make a list (one per team) of all computer devices and programs that you use/interact with in a given day

Class Activity My father is an old man with a few more years to retire and lives in India His work place is now being computerized Since he is close to retirement, he doesn’t have to learn how to use computers Both his daughters live away from home His relatives that he is very close to are spread all around the country Many businesses in India and the government are moving their transactions online Can you convince my father that he needs to become computer literate?

Why Computer Literacy If you have a laptop at home and it is connected to a modem for high speed Internet connection at home and power goes off…. Can you still use your laptop? Do you know what is the difference between Internet and Web? Do you know how many factors affect the speed of your computer, so that you can make an informed decision when buying a new computer? “I am going to be a teacher, I do not need to know how to make web pages”… Comments?

Why Computer Literacy Do you know how anti-virus works and why you need to update it? Are cookies viruses? Do you know that all google results may not have the correct information? Do you know which web sites to rely on? Do you know how to select and use the latest computer gadgets to your advantage?
