Module E – Game on

Module E Objectives Understand the importance of games in the section meeting. Understand the need for different types of games and when to play them. Be able to explain and run different types of games.

Lets start with a game! Musical chairs…….. Go…..! How did those of you who got eliminated first feel? How did the winner feel? What will those who have been eliminated do whilst the game continues?

Lets try another game, but something different! Kims Game. You’ve all played it before I’m sure! But maybe not like this. Listen carefully to what I say and see how many points you can recall! How did this game differ to the first? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this game?

What type of games are there? Individual Relay Energetic Quiet Team Elimination Co-ordination Can you think of any examples of each…….

Why do we play games? Team spirit is important to develop in a Patrol or Six Individual achievement, especially can often boost morale and improve the standing of the winner amongst his or her friends Instructional games can be a very effective way of getting a learning point across. Knotting or First Aid relay races are an example of this sort of game. Quiet, contemplative, intellectual or thoughtful games can allow the shy members of the Section to shine. They can also be used to wind things down at the end of a meeting. What were your favourite games, did they alter each meeting?

6 P’s – Prior Planning and Preparation Prevents Poor Performance (adaptation of the 7 P’s!) Do you have the necessary equipment to run the game? Do you have enough Leaders to run the game? Is the location safe? Is the equipment safe? Do you understand the rules? Explain the rules to the Members clearly and simply Watch your timing Maintain discipline during the game.

Module E Objectives – Have we achieved them? Understand the importance of games in the section meeting. Understand the need for different types of games and when to play them. Be able to explain and run different types of games.
