HISTORY: Many countries and cultures have had contact with Ciutadella, Menorca and its inhabitants throughout history, and each has left their particular stamp and vivid memories, though these have not always been good. Menorca have had domination for some different cultures like next ones: Greek and Roman culture; Moorish; Turhish; Bristish; French and for finaly, Spanish one, by Alfons III the Liberal king of Cataluña- Aragon.

Wandering through its old narrow streets, one can see the interesting design, façades, cornices, cobbled streets and chapels that give their name to some of the streets, coats of arms and shields on buildings, many important old monuments and interesting churches, different architectural styles and splendit old places of the hithertonobility, most of them datingfrom the XVII-XIX centuries, which today house souvenir shops, bars and other businesses on theirground floors.
A city walk might start at the beautiful Born Square: formerly a parade ground, there is a 22 metre high obelisk from the XIX century, commemorating the Turkish assault in July 1558.
