Brazil Brasil

We speak Portuguese not Spanish Fifth largest country About 170 million of people Rich in water… Our Capital is Brasília and not Buenos Aires Brazil

Low population density No water problem Brazil

São Francisco River Basin 25.6 million hectares (40%) of agricultural land. Water demands => 224 m³/s. Being:  28 m³/s (12.5%) => urban supply;  160 m³/s (71.4%) => irrigation;  7 m³/s (3.1%) => animal consumption  29 m³/s (13%) => industrial purposes  2,700 km from its headwaters to its mouth;  draining a 639,219 km2 area (8%)  503 Municipalities and a population of 15,545,866 million of people

About 85% of the SF water is originated in the cerrados and 72% comes from the State of Minas Gerais. The long term mean discharge in the mouth varies from 2,850 to 3,360 m 3 /s. The Basin has a potential power generation of 26,346 MW. 9,290 MW is already installed. HDI varies from 0,823 in the upper SF to 0,538 São Francisco River Basin

São Francisco River Basin - Precipitation Annual mean precipitation depths vary from 400 to 1,600 mm.

São Francisco River Basin - Climate Great diversity of climates, going from humid, in the Southern and Western parts, to semi-arid, in the Juazeiro / Petrolina area.

Paracatu River Basin One of the most important SF sub-basins Area => km2 (7%). About 85% of the SF water is originated in the cerrados and 72% comes from the State of Minas Gerais. 40% of SF discharge during the dry season; 38% of SF discharge during the rain season. 40% of SF discharge during the dry season; 38% of SF discharge during the rain season.

Preto River Basin -One of the most important Paracatu sub-basins (Area => km2.) -Agriculture is the most important activity; -Facing serious water conflict - HDI > 0.65

Preto River Basin

Why Preto River? Logistically is the most adequate place; Upper Catchments with serious water conflicts => Irrigators Lack of information for planning Impact of the results Embrapa Cerrados Data
