Best practices from the road Ask questions What are you trying to answer by giving your presentation? – Sell something – an idea, a product, a service – Get approval to do something

Best practices from the road Before you present check out the location where you are presenting, for: – A projector and screen? – Microphone? Don’t scream – it hurts more than your voice and the audience will not hear you! – Speakers? – Do you need cables to connect up? – Is everything working? Show up early and talk to your audience – Ask them why they are here and use the stories

More best practices from the road Start with your last slide first – You may never get to your last slide! Practice, practice, practice – Video tape yourself and watch it to improve Educate yourself on your audience – Ask yourself “What does my audience want to hear?” Use a remote control (<$50 at any office store) Never go below 18 point font – You want your points to be legible Join Toastmasters – and go to the meetings Put your PPT(x) on a USB memory stick

Use the tools of the trade Use animations Use video to make your point – Brings the story home Customer References Key Partners – Don’t forget speakers Use the latest PowerPoint tools Use open source-royalty free graphics and video Pay for someone to review your work And now, some examples….

IBM XIV Solutions – VMware - Virtualization 11 Automatic rebalancing of load within the infrastructure An example of an animation
