Presentation transcript:

Objective: Students will be able to apply their knowledge of filters, and will learn about touch-up tools. Bellwork: Name a time, or application, where you might want to add a filter to a photograph.

 You can make an object in the foreground stand out from the background by applying a blur filter effect.  Open Photoshop  Open a photo of your choice, or use the girl photo located in the Photoshop folder.  Create a duplicate of the photo.

 Click to create a starting point  To trace the object freehand, drag the mouse pointer around the outline of the shape.  To anchor a point manually, click the mouse button.  To delete a point you just added, click the DELETE key.  To draw a straight line, click the SHIFT key.  To complete the outline, click the starting point.  The outline do NOT need to be perfect!

 From the Select menu select Inverse  or right click on the picture and from the menu choose Select Inverse.  Now the background should be selected.

 From the Filter menu select Blur.  Blur options that look the best are Gaussian Blur or Motion Blur.  Select an option.  Adjust the settings for the filter by dragging the slider to the right to increase the blur or to the left to reduce the blur. When it looks the way you like, click OK. ▪ To remove the selection box, select Deselect from the Select menu, or right click on the image, and select Deselect from the menu.

 Save the picture as Last Name First Initial Blurry Background.

 You will have 35 minutes in class to complete the following Quiz.  You MAY use any notes or handouts you have received so far, but only YOUR notes!!!  You will need to BOTH write on the Quiz packet AND complete an activity with Photoshop.  You should save this and drop it in my drop folder as Last Name First Initial Filter Quiz.  There is NO TALKING at any time during the QUIZ.

 Our last lesson was on filters to transform the appearance of a photograph.  In this upcoming session we are going to learn how to retouch a photo to improve quality.  Retouch means to improve imperfections in a picture.  When might someone need to retouch a photograph?

 From the File menu, select Open  In the Photoshop folder (in Niebur Handouts – Multimedia) double click on the file Touchup to open it in Photoshop.  Make a duplicate so you don’t overwrite the original.

 Click the Crop Tool  Position the mouse pointer over the image, and the pointer should change to a crop symbol.  Click and drag to draw a box around the desired portion of the image.  A dotted line appears around the box (called a marquee)  To change the size of the selection, position the mouse pointer OVER a control point.  Click and drag inwards to make the marquee smaller or outwards to make the marquee larger.  Click the Commit current crop operation tool when finished

 You can set the crop options to change how you view the deleted area.  Turn on the shield: To preview the cropped area, place a checkmark in the Shield box on the Options bar.  Change the Color of the Unwanted Area: You can change the color of the unwanted area… click the color tool on the Options bar and select white, then click OK.  Change the Opacity of the Cropped Area: You can change the opacity of the unwanted area. Click the Opacity tool arrow in the Options Bar and move the slider to the right.

 Click the Zoom Tool from the Options Bar, select Zoom In.  Position the mouse pointer over the eye. The pointer changes to a magnifying glass  Click on the eye to increase the magnification. (You may have to click several times)  Click the Red Eye Tool the mouse pointer changes to a crosshair with an eye. Click on any red in the eye to remove the redness.

 Very few people have perfect skin, you can remove imperfections using the Spot Healing Brush Tool.  Zoom In/Out so you can see the area well.  Click the Spot Healing Brush Tool the mouse pointer will change to a round O.  Click on the blemish to hide the imperfection. Repeat as needed.

 Click the Hand Tool and drag the picture until you can see the eye.  Click the Healing Brush Tool press the ALT key and click on an area of skin that is slightly below the dark ring under the eye.  Click on top of the dark skin to repaint the area with a copy of the selected area.
