Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 1 Documenting Child Status and Progress Sandi Harrington, MA Program Supervisor/Educator Norfolk Infant Development Program

Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 2 When is child status on the three indicators determined? As part of the initial evaluation and assessment process At exit if the child is in the system more than six months It is recommended, but not required, to be completed at the time of each annual IFSP –check with your LSM

Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 3 Coordination with Part B The final Part C ratings can be used as the Part B initial ratings Conversely, the initial Part B ratings can be used as the final Part C ratings Local Systems (Part B & C) will determined what works best for this shared point in time data

Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 4 Documenting the Rating You must document: What evidence led to the selected rating Who participated in the conversation and decision- making

Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 5 Documenting the Rating Child Indicator Summary Form (CISF) IFSP ICDF ITOTS

Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 6 Child Indicator Summary Form (CISF) The two CISF questions: 1. To what extend does this child show behaviors and skills related to this indicator appropriate for his/her age across a variety of settings and situations? (Rating: 1-7) Question A 2. Has the child shown any new skills or behaviors related to this indicator since the last indicator summary? (yes-no) Question B

Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 7 Documenting the Rating If the IFSP narrative is done well, it will save the IFSP team from documenting on the second page of the CISF See sample narrative

Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 8 Quality Assurance As providers, we are reporting the child progress on the children we serve. We MUST ensure that we are being objective and consistent. The documentation in the IFSP or on the CISF will show an external reviewer how we came to each determination.

Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia 9 Quality Assurance It is imperative that from time to time, we stop to reflect upon our practice, meet with other IFSP teams and review one another’s decisions on the determination.
