Critical Design Review (CDR) Definition CDR Objectives CDR Material

Critical Design Review Definition (see Project Description Document) The CDR demonstrates that the maturity of the design is appropriate to support proceeding with full-scale fabrication, assembly, integration, and test. CDR determines that the technical effort is on track to complete the monorail and ground system development and mission operations, meeting mission performance requirements within the identified cost and schedule constraints. Establish the final configuration design, programming strategy and design, and operational characteristics through all the performance tests The final AEV design will be tested and results will be discussed

Objectives The following are typical objectives of a CDR: Ensure that the "build-to" baseline contains detailed hardware and software specifications that can meet functional and performance requirements Ensure that the production processes and controls are sufficient to proceed to the fabrication stage Verify that the final design fulfills the specifications established at PDR and in the MCR Review CDR overlaying objectives

Meeting the Objectives Three Performance Tests, starting this week: PT2 – Operational Objective/Energy Optimization PT3 – Energy Optimization PT4 – Final Testing Performance Test 2 and 3 require a Test Readiness Review Document and Summary Report documenting experimental results, checked and graded, and filed within the Project Notebook

Meeting the Objectives – Cont. PT2-3 AEV Operational Testing and Analysis PT4 AEV Final Testing and Analysis CDR Design decisions and supportive data for selected AEV operational strategy Final configuration and program design

CDR Material Formal Report Cover Page List of Figures and List of Tables Introduction CDR objective and goals and AEV initial concepts (Did concepts meet the MCR?) Engineering Drawings for each AEV concept Experimental Testing and Analysis Material covered in three Performance Tests (1-3) AEV Final Design Final configuration and operational programming strategy design and results Add in Concept Scoring and Screening for added emphasize in final design route CAD Generated Drawings Engineering Drawings for AEV Final Design Assembly and Working Drawing Package CDR report material (team)

Project Management Review Project Notebook Maintain the Project Notebook Follow the Project Description Document Maintain good note-taking practices in documenting: Brainstorming ideas Notes on testing procedures, results, and observations Review graded marks and comments made for each graded Summary report for Performance Tests 2 and 3 Address comments and organize appropriately for PDR Report READ AHEAD PLAN AHEAD Review project management techniques and the use of the project notebook Emphasize good note-taking practices (a graded component to the project notebook) to assist in efficiently creating the CDR document, and Addressing graded comments for each of the performance tests and organization within the CDR report
