Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Welcome (These slides have notes added here to reflect the reports delivered at the AGM)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 AGENDA 1.Apologies 2.Minutes of the 2014 AGM 3.Treasurer’s Report 4.Chairperson’s Report 5.Election of Office Bearers and Ordinary Committee Members 6.Fees for 2016 (Don Hawthorn chaired the AGM as Committee Chairperson)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report Nov 13 -£131,057 + LOAN £90,000 (the Treasurer’s Report was presented by Bobby McClymont, who was appointed as Treasurer in late At that time the club’s debt stood at a record level.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report = RIP NOYGC (the Clydesdale Bank refused to extend the club’s overdraft. This decision put the club on the brink of extinction. Only swift and dramatic action to reduce the club’s debt and a clear plan to control future expenditure persuaded the bank to allow the club to survive.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report 3 Year Plan Outcome Year 1 Outcome Year 2 Year 3 no Overdraft (The 3 Year Plan to clear club debt was hugely ambitious and required massive effort by members in paying fees early and as volunteer workers.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report 3 Year Plan a. Target Costs Greens Materials Greens Staff Shop Costs (The Greens Budget was frozen and a preferred supplier deal was signed with Agrovista - 3 years at fixed prices. Part-time Greens Staff were replaced by member volunteers. Our Pro left but was not replaced, the shop was run by volunteers.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report 3 Year Plan b. Control Costs Budgets Reduced Budgets = LIMITS All spending to be approved in advance (Not only were budgets reduced but no overspend was allowed. All spending had to be approved in advance by the Treasurer. Such financial discipline was new in the management of the club.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report Overdraft Oct ,980Apr 14-40,382 Nov ,057 May ,781 Dec ,220Jun ,058 Jan ,877Jul ,793 Feb ,630Aug 14-55,676 Mar ,318Sep ,724 (This financial discipline, combined with early payment of fees, donations and fund raising efforts by members and staff all helped to reduce the overdraft dramatically but we remained in the red for the whole of the year)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report Overdraft Oct 14 -£57,791 Apr 15 £13,389 Nov 14 -£55,980 May 15 £17,616 Dec 14 -£72,381 Jun 15 £13,389 Jan 15 -£56,325 Jul 15 £6,961 Feb 15 -£22,383 Aug 15 £5,757 Mar 15 £22,415 Sep 14 £11,576 (The financial discipline continued into the next year and took the club into the black in our main account for most of the year.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report Overdraft Oct 2015 £ DR Overdraft Limit now £50,000 (Oct £57,791) ( The club’s financial year ends in September but the following months are low income months, taking us back into overdraft. Our overdraft limit is now lower, by choice, at £50,000)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report LOAN Rock Foundation Fund Raising Over £30,000 + Payments £10,000 a year (our loan, paid at £10,000 a year, has been dramatically reduced by the Rock Foundation fund raising.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report Bank Charges 2013 £15, £12, £6,000 (Over 2 years, the reduction of club debt has reduced banking costs significantly)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report Further Ahead Year 3 New Commitments: Manager Admin/Book-keeper Shop Turf Cutter Greens/Tees Mower Planning Greens Facility (The massive efforts of members and staff can now begin to be rewarded by investment in the course and clubhouse. A new Management Structure and a Business Plan are in progress. Clubhouse repairs and re-decoration are underway.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report Further Ahead Year 3: Overdraft Clear? Debt-Free? Loan now £30,000 March 2016 £20,000 (from a perilous position, the club has recovered and can look forward to a future when debt is not a threat and improvement can be achieved.)

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club AGM 2015 Treasurer’s Report Further Ahead Year 3: Maintain Income 2016 NO CHANGE in Green fees Subscriptions (There is no need to increase fees in 2016, but we do want to keep membership levels up and to maintain our income. We will ask members again to pay early, if possible.)
