Maglev Trains V.S. Modern Trains

Similarities Maglev Trains and Modern Trains both have aerodynamic features. They both are means of transportation They both depend on their resources to keep running They both are very expensive

Differences Maglev Trains Modern Trains A Maglev Train is a train or vehicle that runs on magnets, rather than wheels. For the Maglev train to work, the magnets have a north and south pole and they move by the force of the magnetic field. These trains can travel about 581 kilometers per hour, which is equivalent to 361 miles per hour. They are rounded at the edges and at the front of the train. Also, they are sleek, but not extremely long. Countries that are using Maglev Trains are currently Spain, Germany, Japan, France and China. A Modern Train is a railway that has a single rail, usually elevated. It burns coal for fuel, which is used to move the wheels of a modern train. These trains can travel up to 241 kilometers per hour, which is equivalent to 150 miles per hour. Modern trains are usually pointy at the front of the train. Also, they are long, connecting different parts of the train to keep it together. Almost every country uses Modern Trains.

Calculations (Practice Run/Testing) Practice Run 1: 3.14 seconds After this practice run, we cut off the top of the Maglev train to make it more aerodynamic. Practice Run 2: 3.18 seconds We trimmed the top of our Maglev train. Practice Run 3: 3.46 seconds We colored the Maglev train with markers.

Calculations [Practice Run/Testing (Continued)] Practice Run 4: 3.00 seconds We added more color using markers thinking it would make it go faster comparing results to Practice Run 3. Practice Run 5: 2.99 seconds After this practice run, we were happy with our results and decided to add nothing Average Practice Run: about 3.15
