To Remember When Writing A DBQ Essay! Thesis Uses all but one of the supplied documents ( TRY TO USE THEM ALL) & document each when used Analyze documents --- don’t summarize Analyze authors’ POV One paragraph explaining need for one more type of document (Find your “PERFECT MONGOL DBQ” if you need a reminder)

BUCKETS Look over all your documents and organize them into analytical categories (BUCKETS).

Increased use of Recruitment/Workers Working Machine production Conditions

POV example on next slide- let me know when you need it! Today’s Task Write the Thesis, Additional Document Paragraph & the First Body (1st Bucket) Paragraph! Within your 1st Body (1st Bucket) Paragraph- tackle a document’s POV! Use your perfect Mongol DBQ as a guide! Additional Document Paragraph Example: An additional document that would be helpful is one that showed how many political and economic positions were held by Peninsulares compared to Creoles. It was stated in the documents that Peninsulares monopolized almost all administrative positions (Doc. B). A source showing who held important positions would give great insight in how the Creoles were being denied rights. This would allow readers to further understand why Creoles led the fight for independence in Latin America. POV example on next slide- let me know when you need it!

Tackling a POV (only 1 part of your paragraph!) The following is an example of tackling the POV of a document within your body paragraph. This is only one aspect of the body paragraph. Of course you will need more! Simon Bolivar, an influential revolutionary leader, felt that Creoles were engaged in a dual conflict (Doc. A). He stated that the Creoles were disputing with the natives for titles of ownership and were also struggling to maintain themselves against the opposition of Spain (Doc. A). Bolivar was influenced by the fact that he was a Creole himself and had faced the struggles of the Creoles directly. Be Blunt About The POV!! Point it out for the reader!!!
