Vocabulary for Academic Success! 8 th Grade

Academic Vocabulary Required Course A course that must be taken in order to graduate. Elective Course A course you may select to take but which is not required for graduation. Prerequisite A course that must be completed before the next course can be completed. A-B-C Grades that must be earned in a subject area in order to move up to Level 1 classes. Level 1 Classes In middle school, this refers to advance classes which students can qualify to take. D Semester average that will result in being removed from a Level 1 class. STAAR The end of course tests that will replace TAKS in high school.

Academic Vocabulary Class Rank When all students in a particular high school grade level are ordered according to the GPA Grade Point Average (GPA) In our district, this is reported on a 6.0 scale. It is the cumulative value of the grades a student has earned. Fine Arts Students who want to graduate on the RHSP or DAP must take 1 credit in this area. DAP The most advanced graduation plan approved in the state of Texas. (Distinguished Achievement Plan) RHSP This is the Recommended graduation plan that all students must meet in order to enroll in a 4 year public university in Texas. P.E. The high school requirement is 1 credit for this class. AAS / Health These courses are required for students graduating in CFISD.

Academic Vocabulary 4X4 All students are required to take 4 years of instruction in the core subjects. Math, Science, History, English 26 The number of credits that students must earn in order to graduate on the Recommended Plan. AP Advanced courses that result in college credit for high school students if they can pass a national end of course exam. Dual Credit High school students can enroll in college courses while they are still in high school if they can show that they read and write at a college level.
