 Ancient Greece was located on a peninsula. Greece was surrounded by seas, which made trade and fishing very easier.

 How could being located on a peninsula help trade?

 The Ancient Minoans were the first people to settle in Ancient Greece. They became rich from trading, ship building, and fishing.

 Mountains and seas divided Greece and made it difficult for one ruler to unify the area.

 The mountains isolated city-states from each other. City-states, known as polis, developed their own governments and remained independent.

 Each city-state had an army to protect themselves against invaders from other countries and other city-states. There were many wars.

 Although each city-state had its own government, all of the Greek city-states shared the same language and religion.

 What geographic form was Ancient Greece located on?  What surrounded Ancient Greece?  Who were the first people to settle in Ancient Greece?  How did the seas around Ancient Greece affect them?  How did the mountains affect Ancient Greek city-states?  What is the Greek word for city-state?  What did Ancient Greek city-states have in common?
