WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE CARE®? 3 It is an initiative of the global chemical industry in which companies, through their national associations (CAIA in South Africa), commit to work together to continuously improve: - the health and safety of their workers - their environmental performance - their communication with stakeholders

WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE CARE®? 4 It is a voluntary programme with the vision of no harm to employees, contractors and the general public from our operations. It enables the chemical industry to demonstrate how it has improved over the years and to develop policies for further improvement. It helps the chemical industry to gain the trust of the public and to operate safely, profitably and with due care for future generations.

WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE CARE®? 5 Started in Canada in 1984 Was launched in South Africa in 1994 Has 158 signatory members plus 17 consultant members in SA The initiative is essential in the reduction and elimination of risk and to the implementation of sustainable development
