Why Go-Green 1

Why Go Green There are amazing environmental, economical, health and community benefits for going “Green.” By going Green, you can help the environment by enhancing and protecting ecosystems and biodiversity. Going Green affords you the opportunity to improve air and water quality, reduce solid waste, conserve our natural resources and, by doing so, sustain healthier buildings and homes. Do you want to enhance asset value and profits for your business? Would you like to improve employee productivity and satisfaction in the workplace? Do you want to lower your energy and water bills? Are your maintenance costs too high? Do you feel that you are too dependent on costly energy options? Would you like to reduce the number of power plants utilized in the world? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then you should consider “Going Green,” and OxyGreen can help you do just that. By going Green, you can reduce operating costs for your business and ultimately improve the environment. 2

Why Go Green Contd… By going Green, not only can you reduce energy use, but you can reduce the amount of building-related construction and demolition debris generated every year. By reducing the number of building- related construction and demolition debris generated every year, you can rest assured that your efforts will enhance the overall quality of life for occupants residing and working in Green- friendly buildings. Going Green can minimize the strain on local infrastructure and improve air, thermal, and acoustic environments and ultimately improving public health overall. If you are looking to “Go Green,” then choose OxyGreen for all of your Green building contracting needs! 3

The Effects of Going Green on the Economy Job Creation Environmentally friendly products and services are still a relatively new area of economic development. The focus has always been toward industrial and technological innovation designed to improve business operations and increase profits. Going green places more emphasis on becoming ecologically aware while developing greener transport, manufacturing and energy services. As new greener methods of energy and production are introduced and eventually implemented, the need increases for qualified professionals capable of working on large scale clean energy projects as well as constructing green vehicles, buildings and products. Innovative minds will be in high demand along with the need for green education and training to support jobs and careers in the going green movement. 5

Global Economy Many world leaders recognize that there is an urgent need to be more environmentally aware in both global business practices and every day usage of products and waste disposal. As individual countries seek to find the best practices for going green, an opportunity exists for nations to work together and share knowledge and innovation. Individual nations can help stimulate a global economy by pooling financial resources and investing in ways to develop effective methods of clean energy, sustainable and waste management. Once green solutions and methods are developed in one part of the world, those solutions can be sold to other parts of the world for profit. Green methods that save money in operating or energy costs create extra disposable income which can be injected into the global economy. 6

Lower Prices Consumers who wish to go green are often hindered by the additional costs associated with green products and services. A consumer might choose to go green by using a dish towel in the kitchen instead of spending the extra money on green paper towels. As the green movement continues forward and more consumers begin to make the investment in going green, the cost of green goods and services decreases. Lower costs mean more consumers can make green purchases even in a struggling economy. As a result, more green goods and services are sold to help bolster the overall economy and continue to support the growth of the green movement. 7

THINK "GREEN"! Home construction materials and building techniques have changed in the past several decades to become more energy efficient. Many new innovations are less harmful to our environment as well. By considering your building choices, you can easily increase the comfort, safety, and efficiency of your home without putting undue stress on our natural resources. By making your home "greener," you help to minimize pollution, protect the natural environment, and create a healthy, comfortable, non-hazardous home for you and your family. Think green before you begin any construction project. By considering these points, you can choose the most appropriate building materials and construction techniques. 8

What you should know… Make sure your project is appropriate for where you live. The building plan and the materials used for the construction should be appropriate for the site & the environment. Where possible, build with materials that contain recycled content. As more people learn to recycle, more and more construction products are being made from recycled materials. Reusing materials instead of dumping them in landfills saves valuable resources; by actively looking for and buying products with recycled content, you encourage the recycling industry. Many building materials are available in recycled form: Metals - Steel and aluminum building elements are highly recyclable. Between 50 to 70 percent of the energy and pollution caused by steel production can be avoided by recycling steel. Remelting aluminum avoids up to 85 percent of the energy and pollution of aluminum manufacturing. 9

What you should know… Contd… Heavy timber - Salvaged and resawed, heavy timber can be recycled. Plastics - Although most plastics are recyclable, the process is often difficult to accomplish. Different types of plastic must be separated, an expensive and labor-intensive task. Plastic recycling is not yet a viable option for building materials, since they are usually combined with additives, coatings, and colorants. Companies are working to solve the problem, however, and more plastic may be reused in the future. Glass - Remelted glass, offers few energy and pollution savings. As a result, little recycling of glass building products occurs. Masonry products and ceramics - Recycling concrete, clay, and other similar materials is difficult, but it can be done. Masonry products are often crushed and then reused for granular fill in roads and sidewalks. 10

Materials from renewable sources are… Renewable materials include wood, wool, plant fibers, and other resources that can be replaced within a few decades or less. Sustainable wood products are becoming more readily available. My Money – Am I doing the right thing Considered the long-term costs of the material & do not hesitate, to initially invest a little more but save those extra green notes for your family. Even though a building product may initially cost more, it may be the least expensive alternative in the long run. Some materials, for example, need to be replaced regularly over time, while others are long lasting and maintenance-free. Paint that is twice as expensive but lasts four times as long may be a better buy in the long run. Make sure that you consider the life-cycle costs of your materials. It’s Just the Beginning towards a Greener World, come Join OxyGreen so that you & your family breathes pure Oxygen & we build greener roads for your future… 11
