Staying Organized 9/18/2013

Learning Target I can use my iPad to stay organized as a student. Success Criteria: – I can access my files via WebDAV. – I can add an event to my calendar. – I can create a reminder.

What are some common reasons you’ve seen for not turning in schoolwork? My dog ate it! I lost my paper on the bus. I couldn’t find the directions. It was in my backpack earlier, I promise!

The iPads are a tool that can help you stay organized and turn in work electronically. Brainstorm: What could be some of its benefits? – No more lost papers! – No more broken pencils or smudged & crumpled papers! – All your work is automatically saved in one spot! – You can set reminders to study or complete your assignments! – Your teachers will know that you turned in your work on time!

In order to avoid…

…let’s start!

WebDAV Navigator+ What is WebDAV? It allows you access to your network “My Documents” folder as well as any class shared folders. How will I use it? To turn in work, open assignments from teachers, or create back-up copies of important files.

Setting up WebDAV 1.Open up the app 2.Click the + button

3.Enter server information: – Name: First Name Last Name (ie. Joe Johnson) – Server URL: 1. Delete the http that has been typed for you 2. Start typing “webdav” and the computer will auto- fill the url: – Username: the ID# you use to login to a school computer – Password: the network password you use when logging in to a computer

4.Press Save 5.If yours has a red – sign, press Done

6.Click on your name 7.If you see your documents, you have been successful! If you don’t, go back and check that the URL is exactly correct & that your ID#/Password are correct.

Phew! That was a lot of steps to follow. Unfortunately, there are a few more…so hold tight. You’ve now set-up your WebDAV account, but also need to set-up the pathway to turn work in from the apps Pages, Keynote, & Numbers.

Transferring files from Pages/Keynote/Numbers 1.Open Pages

2.Click the + 3.Click Copy from WebDAV

4.Enter server information: – Server Address: – Start typing “webdav” the computer will auto-fill the url: – User Name: the ID# you use to login to a school computer – Password: the network password you use when logging in to a computer

5.Press Sign In 6.See My Documents & Shared Documents? Success! For now, press Cancel.

Almost there! 5.Repeat steps #1-6 with the app Numbers 6.Repeat steps #1-6 with the app Keynote

Backing-up your files Remember files on your iPad are automatically saved to your iPad only! If it is something you don’t want to lose, back it up on WebDAV. Before syncing your iPad, always back up your files to WebDAV.

Next up…

Creating a Digital Planner You might choose to use the iPad’s calendar app to keep a digital record of your assignments, tests/quizzes, and upcoming events

Press & hold on the date/time to add an event to your daily calendar

Add each class period as an “event” on your daily calendar Write the details of the learning target or assignment(s) for each new event

Setting Reminders Use the Reminders app to set a digital reminder to study for your test, finish your homework, or even send a thank-you note to your amazing teacher!

Write the details of what you need to remind yourself. Decide whether you want the reminder to reoccur, how often, and when.

What could be some tasks to add to your reminder list?

Your turn!

Success Criteria: Double-check that you can do each of the following items: – I can access my files via WebDAV. – I can add an event to my calendar. – I can create a reminder.
