Belief that the U.S. should expand West. Ocean to ocean (Atlantic to Pacific).

Doubled the size of the U.S. Gained Mississippi River Purchased from France for 15 million Jefferson believed in a strict interpretation of the Constitution- had to switch to loose interpretation. Lewis and Clarke sent to map out the terrain.
