STUDY SKILLS TIPS ON HOW TO STUDY…

TIP 1:  Study in a quiet place that is free from distractions and interruptions.  Try to create a space that you can use only for studying purposes if it is possible…

TIP 2  Make a study timetable that shows what subjects you need to study  Then structure them as tasks in the order that you will like to learn your subjects  Put a date next to each task so that you can learn the work by that time  This will help you with your study load in terms of your subjects

TIP 3  Try to study at the time of day that suits you best  Some students prefer to study in the mornings while others prefer the night

TIP 4  Make sure that you are well nourished  You should not be sleepy, tired or hungry as you will not accomplish your tasks  You will not be able to concentrate and absorb the information  Your mind, body and soul has to be in top form so you can prepare yourself

TIP 5:  Concentrate on one task at a time  Do not overload yourself with work that needs to be learnt as this can cause you to mix up your work  One thing at a time will allow you to learn and understand the work better

TIP 6:  Break your work up into smaller parts as this will make things easier  A big chapter can be broken up in parts so you wont feel tired thinking of all the work you have to learn before you can even start

TIP 7:  Make sure you are relaxed and not stressed  Being relaxed helps you to study better and you will remember your work  Do some simple exercises to help you concentrate before you start  Don’t think about petty issues like your girlfriend/ boyfriend as this will not allow you to achieve your goals

TIP 8:  Ensure that your mind and body is physically and mentally prepared before you study  Do not think about how much you have to study  Focus on studying the work you know and finishing the task you set for that time  Don’t say I will do it tomorrow because then you have twice as much work to complete

TIP 9 :  Whatever subject you are studying, make it interesting and exciting  Use real life examples, draw mind maps, use acronyms and personal experiences  These will help you remember and helps you create an interest in what you are studying

TIP 10  Take a break when you think you have learnt a sufficient amount of work  Go for a stretch or walk  Have lots of water to drink  Don’t allow your body and mind to go into sleep mode

GOOD LUCK!!!  I hope that these tips help you to study better and remember your work  You are the creator of your own destiny so start with the basics…  Fiona Maistry
