Veterinarians are people who diagnose and treat animal illnesses or injuries. They take tests, preform surgeries and subscribe medicine to animals. Veterinarians work in animal hospitals or vet clinics. They usually work directly with patents and their animals but have to do some office work. Veterinarian Overview

History The first Veterinary School was founded in 1761 in Lyon, France and this is when the Veterinary profession first began. The Veterinary medicine in Britain didn‘t start until 1795 when the London Veterinary collage was opened. Originally veterinarians were for horses and this continued for a long time because they were needed for the army. It then moved to cows and other live stalk and today is for dogs, cats and other exotic pets.

Being a veterinarian is a full time job, they usually work Monday to Saturday working hours per week. They Work as part of a team with 2 or 3 other veterinarians, a veterinary assistant and a secretary for the vet clinic Work hours per day are normally around 9-5 but in many cases they have to stay late. Many veterinarians also are on call for emergency situations every day. Being a vet is not a union job. Benefits include a pension plan built in and medical, dental and vision coverage.
