Pedestrian Safety & Mobility Assessment Tool

Background Pedestrian Safety Impact Statement requested by Citizens’ Advisory Committee January 2010 Intended/Potential Uses: – ETDM, PD&E, 3R, local projects, assessing developments Align near-term projects with future land use and transit ridership

Background Pedestrian Safety & Mobility Assessment Tool based on Pedestrian Environmental Quality Index developed by City of San Francisco Tested on six area roads: Edgewater Dr., Park Ave., SR 50 Downtown, SR 50 West, SR 438, US 441

Scores All based on 0 to 100 scale Intersection Score Walkability Score – combination of all features related to the walking experience Mid-Block Crossing Score – ease or difficulty of crossing between intersections

Scores Block Intersection Score – average of intersection scores for a given block Total Crossing Score – combination Mid-Block and Block Intersection scores Pedestrian Trip Potential – estimate of relative potential for pedestrian trips along and across the road

Pedestrian Safety & Mobility Assessment Tool Street Edgewater Drive Park Ave. SR 50 Downtown SR 50 West US 441 SOBT SR 438 Silver Star Average Intersection Score Total Block Walkability Score Mid-Block Crossing Score Block Intersection Score Total Crossing Score (Mid-Block + Intersection) Pedestrian Trip Potential Score
