Music English culture

Rock and Roll

The major movement in Rock and Roll in Britain was due to the impact of The Beatles in popular music and culture too. Thanks to this new wave of rock and roll in the sixties, many other bands emerged like the Rolling stones, Queen, The Yardbirds, Alan Price and The Kinks.

Rock and roll in Britain started as a liberation from pre-war austerity; teenagers could dance, drink and smoke, and enjoy the new sounds and freethinking lyrics of these bands and singers. The era momentum coincided with the advent of the pill and the sexual liberation creating a big part of this intoxicating package.

The beatles

The Beatles were an English rock band active in the 1960s, and recognized as the most successful. Formed in Liverpool, it was established in 1962 by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The song that made themselves popular was she loves you.

Brit Pop  Britpop is a subgenre of rock and pop music that originated in the United Kingdom. Britpop emerged from the British independent music scene of the early 1990s.  The movement developed as a reaction against various musical and cultural trends in the late 1980s and early 1990s, particularly the grunge phenomenon from the United States.  Britpop groups brought British alternative rock into the mainstream and formed the backbone of a larger British cultural movement called Cool Britannia. A chart battle between Blur and Oasis dubbed "The Battle of Britpop" brought Britpop to the forefront of the British press in 1995.

The Rolling Stones  The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in The first settled line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums).  The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in Rolling Stone magazine ranked them fourth on the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list, and their estimated sales are above 200 million.

 Formed in London in  They contributed greatly to the rise of arena rock.  According to Guinness World Records, Queen albums have spent a total of 1322 weeks (twenty- six years old) on the album charts in the UK, longer than any other artist.
