Queen By: Alek Robison

AMAZING!!!

Rising Stars A British rock band formed in London, composed of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor. Before Queen, May and Taylor were playing together in a band called ‘Smile’. Freddie later joined and changed their name to Queen after Smile’s lead guitarist Tim Staffell left to join the band ‘Humpy Bong’

Position and Titles Brian May-Piano/guitar Roger Taylor-Drums Freddie Mercury-Lead John Deacon-Guitar/bass These were the original four, however after Freddie died and John retired, Mike Grose came in.

Music Style and Deviation The genres they have been associated with include progressive rock, glam rock, hard rock, heavy metal, pop rock, psychedelic rock, blues rock and dance/disco. Queen also wrote songs that were inspired by genres that are not typically associated with rock, such as ragtime, opera, gospel, vaudeville, and folk.

Examples a Few Another One Bites the Dust Bohemian Rhapsody Crazy Little Thing called Love Don’t Stop Me Now I Want to Break Free Killer Queen Somebody to Love Under Pressure We are the Champions We Will Rock You

Fun Facts Freddie Mercury’s given name was Farrokh Bulsara, although his passport says ‘Frederick Mercury’. Queen designed their crest after their own astrological signs but didn’t believe in the practice themselves. Freddie wrote “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” in his bathtub. “Under Pressure” collaboration with David Bowie wasn’t planned. He just happened to be in the studio when they were recording. Michael Jackson was the one who suggested to release “Another One Bites the Dust” as a single, backstage at one of their L.A. shows. Freddie didn’t think he was a good piano player and feared playing live during Bohemian Rhapsody.
