Presentation transcript:

AKA how Mr. R and Ms. Harrington spent their summer

SUMMER GOALS Science and Math teachers from around the Milwaukee area were paired with engineers to learn about cutting- edge, energy related research Energy was chosen because it is a current topic that is relevant to teachers, students, and the world around us Engage students at the pre-college level to enter into STEM fields in college and later on

Water Project Aeration is used in the wastewater treatment process to reduce the amount of organic mater in wastewater Try to make this process more energy efficient

Wind Turbine/ Power Analysis Reduce the lose of wind flow around turbine blades Optimize the design on wind turbine blades Increase the efficiency of power generation

Biomass Gasification Study how different factors affect the gasification of biomass

Gas Turbine Blade Cooling Investigate the heat transfer and flow of different ribs on the surface of a cooling channel

Gas Turbine Combustor Dilution In a gas turbine combustion engine, hot air can damage the turbine blades (creates hot spots) This can be costly to fix Goal: to study how hot air and cold air can be more effectively be mixed in order to avoid damage to turbine blades
