Climate of China Highlands (Cold and Dry) Arid (extremely dry) Semiarid (very little rain) Humid subtropical (hot, humid summers and chilly to mild winters ) Humid Continental (either severely cold or hot )

Vegetation Bamboo grows fast during the wet season in the southern part of China. Shrubs and many flowering plants in the desert of China grow fastly after summer rains. Deciduous trees means leaf shedding and it happens during the winter. This is why the maples, birches, and other trees turn gold, orange, and red after summer. /bamboo-forest.jpg

Natural Resources China has a lot of natural resources. Chinese have mined the coppers, tin, and iron. China has worlds’ largest supplies of coals. It has abundant trees and waters. China is a good place to farm with numerous rivers and various weathers. Other natural resources in China includes petroleum, which is oil. Most area in China use Hydroeletric power. Lakes and rivers are also important source for Chinese because that is where they get their most food from. g

Historic Traditions of China China has a long history. China invented silk, gunpowder, paper, magnetic compass, clock work, printing press, spinning wheel, and the water wheel. These inventions are still used today throughout the world. Chinese engineers were experts at making canals, building dams, bridges, and supplying drying land with water. Confucius taught duties and responsibilities of Chinese and the result was peace and harmony. Confucianism spread to East Asia. Chinese are famous for their traditional arts. their Calligraphy, painting, sculpture, architecture, and porcelain are just the few of the arts that they fall back to the history.

People in China More than billions of people live in China. China started to grow when Chinese people started doing farming, industries, and trade. There are fifty-six national groups in China. Older people in China are respected for their knowledge and experience. Family often obey the eldest member of the family. In the past, Chinese had large families with many children. But many people died due to disease or starvation. So, most families now only have one child. Since 1970s, couples that have only one child were given a bonus or privileges.

Cultures of China Chinese have an amazing performing arts, traditional arts, and great inventions all added a pride in their culture. Chinese cuisine is the other part of culture that is outstanding. Chinese symbols, horoscope, and festivals are important part of their life. For two thousand years, professional Chinese acrobats have been performing difficult tricks. Operas, shadow puppets, and music are highly advanced. Chinese calligraphy, porcelain making, compass, paper, kite, and silk are well praised and known as the best part of their culture. Chinese cooking is known for its variety of flavors and textures and many different cooking styles.

Transformation Chinese transformed in many ways. Politically, they are no longer the communists they once used to be. When China became communism country in 1949, especially in Mao Zedong’s period, many people died and were unfairly treated. Some lost land in a day, and others lost jobs in a day. China transformed its appearance as well. In the 1980s, the roads were quite with bicycle riders, but now the streets are full of cars and buses. The houses were cramped, single-story dwellings made of clay and bricks are gone. High buildings and highways are seen now. There were time when Chinese became so poor because under the communism, nobody gets reward for their hard work, so people didn’t give their best at work. Also, IMF hit Asian countries. But the government is gradually practicing free enterprise system and the economy is getting better.
