PRIOR TO SMALL CHAPEL DONATED TO SMALL CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF “BOOMINGTOWN” 11 FAMILIES FORMED THIS COMMUNITY FAMILIAR NAMES: STEPHANI – DeBETTA – COCO – DePASQUALE – PERRY – GAZZOLA – MOLLA – FRABIZIO – PALERMO – PARENTI - SHIEGO
PRIOR TO 1955 DEVELOPED FROM A MISSION CHURCH OF MARY IMMACULATE OF BELLPORT FUNDS WERE RAISED AND COMMUNITY BUILT THE CHURCH ON MONTAUK HIGHWAY, CONTINUED TO GROW AS A MISSION CHURCH UNTIL 1955 WHEN IT WAS GRANTED INDEPENDENCE AS A PARISH AND CHOSE THE NAME OF ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER.

ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER 1.DUE TO STRUCTUAL ISSUES WITH THE OLD CHURCH BUILDING, THE CHURCH WAS RELOCATED TO THE SCHOOL IN AUGUST THE CAPUCHIN FRANCISCANS, WHO HAD BEEN THE CHAPLAINS AT BROOKHAVEN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, AGREED TO STAFF THE PARISH.
ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER SEPTEMBER 1977 FR. GREGORY REISERT O.F.M. CAP WAS INSTALLED AS THE FIRST CAPUCHIN PASTOR FR. DENNIS FITZMAURICE AND FR. DAVID REBELLO O.F.M. CAP WERE ASSOCIATES. SADLY IN NOVEMBER 1977, FR. FITZMAURICE DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT
ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER TIME MARCHES ON AUGUST 1978 – FR. MICHAEL CONNOLLY JOINS SJW AUGUST 1979 SCHOOL AUDITORIUM IS REDESIGNED INTO A CHURCH. WITH CONSTRUCTION FINISHED IN TIME FOR THE 25 TH ANNIVERSARY
ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER JUNE 1983 PROPERTY ON MONTAUK HIGHWAY SOLD FOR $100,000. RENOVATIONS TO THE SCHOOL BUILDING AND SURROUNDING PROPERTY CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS UNDER FR. BERNARD MALONEY O.F.M. Cap. – MARY’S COURTYARD – PARKING LOT – CLASSROOM WINDOWS – FRIARY IMPROVEMENTS
ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER SEPTEMBER 1988 FR. THOMAS MARCH ARRIVES AT SJW AND SERVES UNTIL OCTOBER 1997 SEPTEMBER 1990 FR. MARCH INSTALLED AS PASTOR AND INSTIGATES THE “RENEW” PROGRAM OVERSAW THE 40 TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER TIME MARCHES ON DECEMBER 1997 FR. MICHAEL CONNOLLY O.F.M. RETURNS AS PASTOR ANNUAL GOLF OUTING IS RENAMED IN HONOR OF FR. TOM MARCH JULY 2001 – FR. CONNOLLY BEGINS A MAJOR RENOVATION OF THE CHURCH – NEW CARPET – NEW PEWS WITH A CENTER AISLE – REDESIGNED ALTAR AND CHOIR AREAS
