FOR TRAINING USE ONLY 1 Finally, I’m an Upperclassman! Honor 3-1

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY 2 Task: Understand that regarding honor as a key component of your character is a valuable trait of Citadel cadets and graduates Condition: Given a block of instruction taught by the Company Honor Rep in a classroom environment followed by a role-playing exercise and objective questions Standard: Discuss various solutions to role playing scenarios and answer questions based on the material presented and the Honor Manual Training Objective

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Honor > Self Hold yourself accountable for your actions – The Honor Code is not easier as an Upper Classman AWOL is a large area of concern for Sophomores No, going AWOL is not an HV, but there has been many cases where going AWOL was the root of an honor accusation

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Honor > Class Unity Yes, we all have life long friends here, so don’t put each other in bad situations – You should have the integrity to hold your classmate’s accountable for their honor – You should also have the integrity to not put your classmate’s honor at risk for you – Don’t lie for them – Don’t ask them to lie for you Having the mutual understanding that you will not put your friend in a bad situation will cause your friendships to last and be cherished during your cadet career

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Time Management A large factor in honor situations is cadets’ time management – Often times losing track/running out of time causes cadets to compromise their honor Know what you have to do and when you have to do it – Academic and Military Keep track of the assignment Keep track of your duties on the training schedule

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Role Play Have 3 people role play a scenario of 3 friends going to dinner on a Wednesday night. 2 friends (Cadet A and Cadet C) have earned Charleston Passes. 1 friend (Cadet B) did not earn a Charleston Pass. 3 Scenarios to follow

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY 1.At 1800 Cadet A- with a Charleston Pass- and Cadet B- without a Charleston Pass- walk out to Altman Lot to get Cadet A’s car. At the car, Cadet B realizes he forgot to sign-out. Too lazy to go back to his room himself, he calls and asks Cadet C to sign-out for him while Cadet C is still in the room. Since they only went to the car for about 10 minutes, Cadet C assumes this shouldn’t be a problem. What should Cadet C do?

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Technically, signing out for someone can cause you to find yourself Honor Violation situation. At the very least, consider this: by refusing to sign-out for your friend, you have openly set the standard that you will not put yourself in an Honor Violation, regardless how ‘big or small the incident may seem’. 8

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY 2.It’s 1930 and you are all eating dinner. Cadet A wants to stay and finish eating. Cadet B must be back before What does Cadet C do? Bonus: – You have 1 car and that check will not come out until 1955

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY This is a tricky situation, but very possible. There are multiple ways to act in this situation, but all must involve Cadet B returning to campus before 1950.

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY 3.At 2100 that night, Cadet’s A and C remember they had an essay over the weekend that is due at 0800 the next morning. Like many take-home assignments, the directions forbid the student from receiving help from others. Since they are ‘just going to discuss ideas’ with eachother, the students plan to meet at 2200 to talk about the assignment. At 2155, your roommate, Cadet A, tells you he is going to meet Cadet C to discuss the essay. What should you do? 11

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Stop him! Regardless of the amount of help received, help is help. Both students are putting themselves in Honor Violation situations. Furthermore, Cadet A has now put Cadet B in an Honor Violation situation if Cadet B were to tolerate their meeting. 12

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY 13

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Reflect Honor cases have occurred based upon cadets not placing honor over their class unity. Why is it sometimes hard to maintain honor when the personal class unity seems to be in jeopardy? What minor, routine ways can you demonstrate Honor over Self and Class Unity in your everyday life? 14

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Provide Feedback Now that you are familiar with Honor LTP classes, help us help you Provide feedback on how the classes have been going, what you liked/disliked, and what you want to learn Company Honor Reps will submit feedback up the Chain of Command
