FAMOUS PEOPLE BORN IN GOSPIĆ
NIKOLA TESLA Nikola Tesla was born 1856 in Smiljan. He remains a famous Croatian scientist and innovator in the world of voice. He invented the magnetic field and the polyphase system of alternating current.
ANTE STARČEVIĆ Ante Starčević was born 1823 in Žitnik. He is better known as “the father of the country”. He was Croatian politician, journalist and author. He advocated for the independence of the Republic OF Croatia.
MIROSLAV KRALJEVIĆ Miroslav Kraljević was born on 14 December 1885 in GOSPIĆ, in the area of LIKA. His early childhood up to 7th grade high school (1888 to 1902) was spent in ZAGREB, though he completed high school in Gospić (1902–1904).
MARIJAN MATIJEVIĆ Marijan Matijevic was born 1878 in Duboki Dol. He was the wrestler and philanthropist. In 1904 he won the first place in wrestling and other games of physical strength. People call him the strongest man in the world because of his physical strength but also the nobilitiy.
