Energy and Matter. Energy Energy – the ability to do work or cause change. – Like matter, energy is never created or destroyed in chemical reactions.

Topic: Forms of Energy PSSA: C / S8.C.3.1. Objective: TLW compare the six forms of energy.
 Energy is the ability to cause change.  Anytime change occurs, energy is transferred from one object to another.  Energy can be in many different.

Presentation transcript:

 Is the ability to cause changes in matter.  Energy can transform, or change, from one form into another.  Energy is never used up.

 The energy an object has because of its position or condition.

 The energy an object has because of its motion.

 A form of energy that is carried as waves in a vibrating manner.  A type of kinetic energy, because particles of matter are moving.  The cause of all sound you hear.

 Is the total kinetic energy that makes up a substance.  Thermometers measure thermal energy.

 Is a form of energy that can travel through space.  It can also pass through some types of matter.  Travels as waves

 Energy that is stored in matter and that can be released by a chemical reaction

 The total energy of motion and the position of an object.

 Energy caused by the movement of electric charges.  When you use electricity you are using electrical energy.

 The buildup of electric charges on an object  Objects with the same charge repel each other  Objects with opposite charge attract each other

 The flow of electric charges along a path.

 A device that changes electrical energy into mechanical energy.

 A device in which electric current is used to produce magnetism.

 A device that makes an electric current by converting kinetic energy to electrical energy.
