Presentation transcript:

To take Oxygen and food to all the cells in the body so they can burn the food for energy To remove Carbon Dioxide and other waste products from the cells. To fight infection and diseases in the body.

The Heart Blood vessels Arteries veins Capillaries Blood Plasma white blood cells red blood cells

It pumps blood around the body. It has 4 chambers that blood flow through

Arteries carry blood away from the heart. The blood in the arteries carries Oxygen Veins carry blood to the heart. This blood is full of waste products like carbon dioxide.

Capillaries are tiny blood vessels (one cell thick) that take blood to small places like the tips of fingers and toes and to the cells throughout your body.

How about we play a game and find out…

When I say “go”… Head directly to your area and if your name is in green pick up your group’s materials on your way. Work with group members to put the steps in the correct order. When you are sure about the order, put the pieces on the tape. Have your “runner” bring the tape strip to me. Return to your seat and wait for the rest of the groups to finish. The group that has them in the correct order the fastest will win a treat.

Step 1- The blood is pumped from the heart to the lungs Step 2- Carbon Dioxide goes out of the blood and into the lungs and oxygen goes from the lugs into the blood. Step 3- The oxygenated blood goes back to the heart and the heart pumps it to the rest of the body. Step4- Blood also goes to the small intestines and picks up food. The blood carries the food and oxygen to all the cells in the body so the cells can burn the food for energy. Step 5- After the blood gets rid of the food and oxygen, it goes back to the heart and the heart pumps it to the lung and it starts all over again.
