THE GREAT MUSIC EXPERIMENT 7SCIENCE

We will use the steps of the scientific method to solve our problem PROBLEM: I like listening to music and want to find music that helps me concentrate on my work ASK A QUESTION:

We will be testing: rock music, classical music, electronic music and no music HYPOTHESIS: METHODS: -We will perform an experiment where you will read AND COPY a short passage (text) of information and be expected to answer a question at the end. -You will listen to different types of music while you read/copy the text. -You will be given 1.5 minutes to complete this task. -We will repeat each step twice: 2 trials for each type of music -You will record the number of words you have copied and any other observations in your data table

RESULTS Number of words copied Types of musicTrial 1Trial 2Qualitative observations Rock Electronic Classical No music

ANALYSIS Create a BAR graph to show all of your results AND THEN answer the following questions: What music allowed you to copy the MOST words and answer the question? What music allowed you to copy the LEAST words and answer the question? How could your own preference in music affect your results? Explain.

CONCLUSION Was your hypothesis proved/disproved? What did you learn from this experiment? Were there any possible errors that could have affected your results? What kind of application can this experiment have in your life? Explain.

Music selections: Rock: Paradise City (Guns and Roses) Electronic: Barbara Streisand (Duck Sauce) Classical: Carnival of the Animals: The Swan (The Festival Ensemble of the Festival of Sound)
