What is Biomedical Engineering? Biomedical engineering is a diverse, multidisciplinary field that uses engineering, science and technology to solve medical problems and other problems involving living systems. Science fiction is a little less fictional in the day- to-day work of biomedical engineers, who design prosthetic limbs and artificial organs or regenerate tissue. They also create drug formulations, develop pharmaceuticals or collect and analyze biological data, among other work. Biomedical Engineering is the study of the human body as a whole system and the mechanisms of disease through a large amount of engineering analysis, and to use that understanding to design better therapeutic strategies, devices, and diagnostics to improve human health.

Schooling Required? Program Levels: Bachelor's (being the minimum required) Master's Doctorate Degrees

Good Traits of a Biomedical Engineer- Leadership Motivation Encouraging Good listener Good communication Being able to value other’s opinions Good negotiation Able to take constructional criticism

What does a Biomedical make on average? As of 2012, a median Biomedical engineer made around 86,960 USD annually. Scientific research and development services $94,150 Medical equipment and supplies manufacturing 88,850 Pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing 87,340 General medical and surgical hospitals; state, local, and private 69,910 Colleges, universities, and professional schools; state, local, and private 63,440

Job Outlook- Employment of biomedical engineers is estimated to grow at around 27% from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations, but because it is a small occupation, the growth will only result in about 5,200 new jobs over the 10-year period.
