Doffing PPE Level One

Will need a second donned associate that is a trained observer. This associate will monitor and help by reading each step of the doffing procedure while assuring that each step is completed accurately. The trained observer will assist, as minimally needed, with removal of the PPE from the contaminated associate. When the trained observer’s hands come in contact with the contaminated associate or their PPE, they must immediately disinfect their gloved hands. If any other part of the observer comes in contact, follow the proper protocol for removal of all PPE. Preparation

Trained observer will spread red biohazard bag open on top of plastic drape on floor prior to associate stepping into it. Associate will stand in open red biohazard bag. Sanitize gloved hands. Allow hands gloves to dry completely

Remove impervious gown and outer gloves.

Sanitize gloved hands Remove full face shield

Sanitize gloved hands Remove bouffant/shower cap

Sanitize gloved hands Sit in chair to remove boot covers (chair will be plastic)

Remove boot/leg covers Step out of red bag onto plastic drape as boot/leg covers are removed

Sanitize gloved hands Remove gloves

Sanitize hands. Prior to leaving doffing area, remove feet from shoes. Slip on surgical booties to cover socks. (do not need to wear gloves as shown) Leave doffing area. Wash hands with soap and water.

Trained observer will place shoes in tub/bucket and wrap with bleach wipes, covering entire shoe surfaces. Bleach wipes must have contact time of 5 minutes with shoes.
