DAVID’S PRAISE FOR GOD’S DELIVERANCE 2 SAMUEL Chapter 21:15 – Chapter 22 DAVID’S PRAISE FOR GOD’S DELIVERANCE I. INTRODUCTION A. Last study, “Payment of Saul’s Sin”

1. Need to be people of character. 2. Should not have to take oaths. a) Should be trustworthy. B. 7 verses left in chapter 21 II. 2SAMUEL 21:15-22

A. This is not Goliath. 1. His spear ½ the weight of Goliath’s. 2. David a young warrior at heart. a) Did not have stamina he had in his youth. III. 2SAMUEL 21:17

A. David more important as King than as a warrior. 1. Important they keep him alive. IV. 2SAMUEL 21:18-22 A. Concludes David’s battle with the Philistine giants.

1. Now David’s praise to the Lord – chapter 22. 2. Read Psalm 18 and notice the similarities. a) Believed to be written earlier in David’s life. V. 2SAMUEL 22:1-2

A. Word “rock” mentioned 124 times! 1. Best fortresses built on a mountain. a) “fortress” = place that is impenetrable! 2. = to be delivered a) David saw the Lord as all 3!

b) The Lord this to him over and over again. VI. 2SAMUEL 22:3-4 A. The Lord had become everything to him! 1. Learned to put his trust in the Lord.

a) Next question would be, “How?” b) Mean David was never afraid? VII. 2SAMUEL 22:5-7 A. Sounds like fear?

1. David feared for his life many times. a) Verse 7 (1) David KNEW the Lord heard him! VIII. 2SAMUEL 22:8-20 A. Wonderful way describing the Lord deliverance!

1. Psalms describe what is in most of our heart’s. 2. David knew his “daddy” loved him! a) Knew “daddy” would come to his rescue. b) He was no one to be trifled with! (1) His enemies no match for his “daddy”.

(2) Verse 20 – why this was psalms of his youth (a) We will see more.. IX. 2SAMUEL 22:21-25 A. “Youthful” approach to grace of the Lord! 1. Luke 18:10-14

2. This is pre-Bathsheba! a) The Lord blesses us “in spite of us”. X. CONCLUSION A. 2Samuel 22:26-28 1. Think you are merciful but what if you aren’t?

2. Psalm 51 – AFTER David’s public sins. a) Psalms 51:1-17 (1) Mistake of assuming does not matter how we live our lives. (a) David learned new dimension of God’s grace and mercy.
