Presentation transcript:

Romeo and Juliet Act I “ Cupid Draw Back Your Bow” Scene IV Romeo was in love with Rosaline a girl that did not share his affection. Hearing that Rosaline was to attend a great feast at the house of Capulet, Romeo and several friends decided to attend the feast. Before attending the feast, his trusted friend Mercutio and his cousin Benvolio tell Romeo that he is a lover. Mercutio tells him to ”barrow Cupid’s wings and soar them above a common bound.” As soon as Romeo entered the ballroom, he saw beautiful Juliet. He forgot all about Rosaline. I thought of the song “Cupid Draw Back Your Bow” because at first Romeo wanted Cupid to use his power to win Rosaline’s love. After meeting Juliet he needed Cupid to help him with Juliet.

Act II “Chapel Of Love” Scene II Romeo and Juliet have learned that they are from rival families. They have fallen instantly in love and can not see the danger ahead. They can only see the “love” that they have for one another. That night Romeo, so much in love, goes to Juliet’s house. He stands in the orchard under the balcony that leads to her room. Juliet appears on the balcony where she and Romeo confess their love for each other. They agree to secretly marry the next day. Juliet tells Romeo to go and arrange for the marriage ceremony. They are married with the help of Friar Laurence and Juliet rushes home so no one will know of the marriage. I chose the song “Chapel Of Love” because it is a popular song for couples who get married. It just reminded me of Romeo and Juliet.

Act III “Love Hurts” Scene I The feuding between the Montague and Capulet families is getting worse. Tybalt (Capulet) starts a fight with Mercutio (Montgue) and ends up killing him. Romeo in an angry rage, kills Tybalt who is the cousin of Juliet. For the killing Romeo is banished from Verona. Scene IV The Capulet family is planning the wedding between Juliet and Paris. Juliet does not want to marry this man. She tries to get her farther to listen to her but he has decided to continue making plans for the marriage. Juliet goes to Friar Lawrence to ask him what she should do. I chose “Love Hurts” because it reminded me that with all the love Juliet and Romeo had for each other and family love did hurt them.

Act IV “Love Potion Number Nine” Scene I Friar Lawrence gives Juliet a sleeping potion that will make everyone think she is dead. He tells her to take it the night before her wedding. He promises to send word to Romeo to meet her when the potion wears off. They can then go to Mantua where Romeo is now staying. Friar tells her that they can live happily ever after. Scene III Juliet follows the Friar’s instructions and drinks the sleeping potion. The nurse finds her and tells the family that Juliet is dead. They lay her in an open tomb. The title of the song “Love Potion Number Nine” reminded me of the sleeping potion that Juliet took in order to get Romeo back. She thought of it as a love potion instead of a sleeping potion.

Act V “Kiss Him Goodbye” Scene I Romeo learns of Juliet’s death. He buys poison to take with him when he visits Juliet’s tomb. With the help of the poison he plans to die by her side. Scene II Friar Lawrence learns that his letters to Romeo did not reach him in time. The news of Juliet’s death arrived first. He starts out to the tomb to get Juliet. Scene III Romeo and Paris are at the Juliet’s tomb where they fight and Paris is killed. Romeo kisses Juliet and drinks his poison. Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo dead. She tries to kiss some of the poison from his lips but fails. She takes the dagger from Romeo and kills herself. “Kiss Him Goodbye” was chosen because it described the final end to Juliet.
