Interscholastic Athletic Eligibility Process of Transfer Students 1. If the sport season and school year has started If Student participated in the sport, the student is ineligible for the remainder of that sport season, and must obtain a residency ruling from Sports Administration to be eligible for other sport seasons that school year. If the student has not participated in the sport this season, the student is ineligible for 30 days commencing on the first day of attendance at the new school. Eligibility then would be pending the residency ruling from Sports Administration. Eligibility may be granted when there is no change of residence when: Eligibility may not granted when : Both Principals concur. The student is enrolling for the first time in his/her home school. There are extenuating circumstances documented by school officials and submitted along with the application. There is no evidence of recruiting. The transfer is not athletically motivated. Both Principals do not concur. The student is not enrolling for the first time in his home school and there is no change in residency. There are no extenuating circumstances documented by school officials. There is evidence of recruiting and receipt of benefits. The transfer is determined to be athletically motivated. Statements on the application are proven false. The maximum period of ineligibility for a student is 365 days. Sports Administration residency rulings can be appealed to the Athletic Board of Principals. The turnaround for residency rulings can be up to two weeks. 2. If the school year has not started Student is ineligible until a there is a residency ruling from Sports Administration. 3. The school year has started but Sport season has not Student is ineligible for 30 days commencing on the first day of attendance at the new school. Eligibility then would be pending the residency ruling from Sports Administration. Transfer student and parents/guardian must complete a request for Residency Ruling Application The application consists of general questions of residency and guardianship, a notarized document of the current address, sending school and receiving school principal’s concurrence, reasons for transfer, school attendance and interscholastic sport participation history, etc. Only a complete application will be processed. Eligibility is likely to be granted when: Both Principals concur. There is a change in residency new to the district. There is a change in residency into the attendance boundaries of the receiving school. The transfer is determined a Safety transfer by the Network office of the Chicago Public Schools. There is no evidence of recruiting. The transfer is not athletically motivated.

Process Map - Hiring Non-Board Coaches STEP I  The principal will instruct the candidate to visit the Chicago Public Schools website at cps.edu and select the “Careers at CPS” link in the lower right hand corner of the page.  The candidate should click the “Support our Schools” link to view posted positions.  The candidate will complete a search for the appropriate coaching position (ID# LP)  The candidate will identify the position “High School Athletic Coach” and start the online application process. NOTE:  Candidates MUST have ASEP, NFHS or ISBE certification to move forward to the interview phase  Concussion training is mandatory and must be completed prior to coaching any sport.  Find free concussion training as well as other required compliance information at asp  Offer is pending background check clearance and requirements  See Article II Sec. 5A of CPHSAA Constitution Bylaws STEP III  Once Sports Administration receives the above information from the principal, the Sports Administration representative will locate the candidate’s application and extend an offer for the position.  Once the offer has been extended, the Talent Office will initiate the onboarding process for the selected candidate. An will be sent to the candidate with directions on how to complete their onboarding process. STEP V  After all onboarding steps (including TB test, and background checks) have been completed by the candidate and cleared through Staffing Services, the candidate and Sports Administration will receive and notification regarding the candidate’s eligibility to begin working. Sports Administration will notify the principal of the candidate’s clearance. STEP VI  Principals must sign and return the Sports Administration Attestation document confirming the coach has received proper certifications and mandatory concussion awareness training. IF A COACH IS NOT DOCUMENTED ON THE ATTESTATION LETTER, HE/SHE WILL NOT PAID FOR THE SEASON COACHED. STEP II  The principal will Sports Administration at and provide the name of the candidate, position, sport and STEP IV NOTE:  Volunteer Coaches must also possess coaching/concussion certification as well as submit to a background check and produce the results of a Freedom from Tuberculosis exam (within 1 year of the date of hire) in order to be eligible to coach.
