What is a color correction? Images could need adjustment to either colors, values or both. Photos can sometimes have a color SHIFT, too much red or blue, etc. This is known as a COLOR CAST.
How can I access the color correction controls? IMAGE menu Automatic filters: auto tone auto contrast auto color IMAGE menu ADJUSTMENTS Manual controls: Hue/Saturation Color Balance Shadows / Highlights
What is COLOR BALANCE? Drag the arrows toward the color you want to add. Independently control the shadows, midtones and highlights.
What is SHADOWS/HIGHLIGHTS? Special filter design to just effect the tonal or value range in an image. Use when shadows are too dark or “filled in”.
What is HUE / SATURATION? Adjusts color by HUE, SATURATION or LIGHTNESS (brightness or value). Use MASTER to affect the entire image.
Choose a target color to affect only those portions of the image.
What is COLORIZE? Color is first converted to GRAYSCALE and then a specific HUE is combined with those values.
What is COLORIZE? The affects the entire image.
How can I colorize in areas? Use the COLOR mode with the paintbrush, fill or layer to spot colorize.
EXERCISE: 1. Open puppet.jpg. Duplicate the image on to 3 different layers. Using Hue/Saturation, create 3 color combinations. Save as: yourname_hue-sat.psd 1. Open building shadow.jpg Duplicate the layer. Use Shadows/Highlights to open up the detail. Save as: yourname_shadows.psd
